Industry 5.0 is a new concept that shifts the focus of industry towards research and innovation, in order to support its long-term service to humanity within the boundaries of our planet. This approach recognizes the power of industry to achieve societal goals beyond just jobs and growth, and instead aims to make production sustainable and to prioritize the wellbeing of industry workers.
One of the key aspects of Industry 5.0 is the integration of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and big data analytics. These technologies can greatly improve the efficiency and sustainability of production processes, and also have the potential to improve the working conditions of industry workers. For example, the use of robots and automation can reduce the need for human labor in dangerous or repetitive tasks, allowing workers to focus on more skilled and fulfilling roles. Another important aspect of Industry 5.0 is the integration of circular economy principles. This means that industry should be designed to minimize waste, and to optimize the use of resources. This can be achieved through the use of recycling, remanufacturing and other circular economy strategies.
Aligned with the aforementioned, the Evolve 5.0 project has recently announced the finalization of PR1 the’’ Industry 5.0 Competence Framework and Training Skills-Sets’’. This project aims to develop the state-of-the-art of each partner country in relation to Industry 5.0, also known as the fifth industrial revolution. The state-of-the-art is divided into two implementation parts. The first part is a desk research and review of European policies in relation to the adoption and effectiveness of strategies for a successful Industry 5.0 transition. This includes analyzing how these policies translate and filter down to vocational education and training (VET) trainers and organizations at the national level context. The second part of the implementation is field research. Each partner will be responsible for identifying and selecting at least 10 key industries or companies and conducting field research. This research can be done through face-to-face interviews, ideally, or by promoting the online version of the questionnaire.
In conclusion, Industry 5.0 is a new concept that is taking the industry to a new level of excellence, and is a significant step towards sustainable production and wellbeing of industry workers. The EVOLVE 5.0 project will provide valuable support to VET organizations and trainers, in order to ensure a successful transition to Industry 5.0 principles and values. This will help to secure the industry’s long-term service to humanity, within the boundaries of our planet.
