Empowering Youth Migrants and Refugees: Co-Designing Policies for Inclusive Societies

In a world facing unprecedented migration challenges, it is crucial to prioritize the social inclusion of youth migrants and refugees. Recognizing the importance of their active involvement in shaping policies that directly affect their lives, a consortium of organizations, including NGOs, universities, municipalities, and governmental bodies, has embarked on a groundbreaking project. The Consulting EUTH  project aims to establish consultative bodies at both local and European levels, empowering young migrants and refugees to participate in political processes and co-design policies tailored to their unique needs. By fostering a multi-stakeholder approach, the project seeks to promote mutual understanding, improve integration, and create inclusive societies across Europe.

Central to this project is the belief that the active participation of migrants in consultative and decision-making processes contributes to their empowerment and long-term integration into society. By involving youth migrants and refugees in the political life of their host countries, the project seeks to provide a platform for their voices to be heard and their perspectives to shape policies. This inclusive approach recognizes the importance of individual agency and allows migrants to take ownership of their own life situations, fostering a sense of belonging and creating pathways for meaningful engagement with public affairs. Through open and participatory processes, these bodies will collectively design policies that address the specific challenges faced by youth migrants and refugees. By considering the diverse legal frameworks of the member states involved, the project ensures that policies are contextually relevant and responsive to local needs.

Through close cooperation and inclusive decision-making processes, the consultative bodies will facilitate as means for active and equal participation of youth migrants and refugees in their communities. By placing the power to shape policies in their hands, the project recognizes the agency of individuals and communities, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. This approach not only enhances the level of social inclusion for these people but also generates concrete awareness and improvements within the member states hosting them.

As this project sets its sights on establishing a consultative body at the European level, it symbolizes a significant step towards a future of inclusivity, respect, and understanding. By amplifying the voices of youth migrants and refugees in decision-making processes, the project serves as a powerful catalyst for positive change. It demonstrates that when diverse stakeholders come together, collaborate, and prioritize the active involvement of those affected, it is possible to co-design policies that truly address the unique challenges faced by youth migrants and refugees. Ultimately, this endeavor paves the way for more inclusive societies, where the potential and contributions of all individuals are recognized, valued, and celebrated.
